If you are coming to Normandy, your fourth choice is to rent a car at the airport and drive to Bayeux, Normandy.

From Roissy Charles de Gaulle International Airport to Bayeux (Normandy) will take you at least 4 hours of driving while staying concentrated on traffic!

When you land at Roissy Charles de Gaulle Terminal 2, you will find easily the sign showing you how to get to the car rental companies. All the known companies are represented BUT the only one in Bayeux is Hertz if you plan to leave you car there and take the train back to Paris? Otherwise you will have to drop off your car in Caen.

Cost: this depends on the type of vehicle, number of days etc...

Tip: we strongly recommend that you take the GPS option, unless you have it on your phone as leaving the airport, taking the highway around Paris is not an easy ride, especially with traffic!

Important: if you book by phone and want to drop your car in Caen, make sure you pronounced it correctly as a family made the mistake of booking their car in CANNES (French Riviera) and not CAEN!

A good choice of travelling if :

  • you don't have a tight budget
  • you are in no hurry and ready to stand in line to pick up your car at the rental company
  • you are fine to find yourself in a traffic jam during peak hours or due to an accident on the highway or Paris by-pass with the infamous Parisian drivers!
  • you are prepared, with the jet lag, to drive with the strong probability of being tired on the road
  • you are ok with not being able to take a nap unless you stop somewhere
  • you want to do some sightseeing on the way to Normandy, Deauville for example!
