Normandy American Heroes founder, Rudy Passera, takes his guests on the European battlefields and willingly shares his expertise on how to help travellers optimize their travel plans from the States to Paris, France.

If you are coming to Normandy, your second choice is to take the Air France shuttle bus to Paris and then go to Gare Saint Lazare train station to take the train to Bayeux train station.

Roissy bus to Opera

From Roissy Charles de Gaulle International Airport to Bayeux (Normandy) via Gare Saint Lazare (Paris train station) average one hour of transport with the Air France shuttle bus.

When you land at Roissy Charles de Gaulle Terminal 2, the Air France shuttle bus stops at the vast majority of the Terminal gates every 15 minutes during the day (05h45 am to 08h00 pm) - Make sure you take the one that takes you to Opéra as we don't recommend the Air France shuttle to Place de l'Etoile - Arc de Triomphe!

Purchase your ticket for Paris Opéra Garnier cost one way around 14 Euros

1. Roissy Terminal 2  or Terminal 1 to Opéra Garnier

2. Opéra Garnier to Gare Saint Lazare is a good 10 minutes walk...not worth taking the metro or the bus unless it rains!

Tip: when you take the Air France shuttle bus, sit on the left side so as to have a good view of Paris!

From Orly International Airport to Bayeux (Normandy) via Gare Saint Lazare (Paris train station) - average thirty minutes of transport with the Air France shuttle bus

When you land at Orly Sud or Ouest, the Air France shuttle bus stops at each terminal every 10 minutes during the day (05h35 am to 00h30 am)

Purchase your ticket for Paris métro Denfert Rochereau, cost one way around 10 Euros

1. Orly to métro / RER station Denfert Rochereau

Note: if you are not in a hurry, you could take the opportunity to visit the famous Catacombs of Paris next door to the RER station of Denfert Rochereau, one hour visit, easy to walk down the staircase, a bit more difficult to climb out!

2. Take métro line number 4, direction Porte de Clignancourt and get off at the métro station Chatelet les Halles

3. Chatelet les Halles to Gare Saint Lazare Metro line 14 (automatic so even if they are strikes you know it's running!)

Tip: when you take the Air France shuttle bus, sit on right side so as to have a good view of Paris!

gare saint lazare train station

Gare Saint Lazare to Bayeux, Normandy - average 2h21 of transport with one stop in Caen (you stay in the train!)

When you face the entrance of the Gare Saint Lazare, all trains departing for Normandy are on the far right so easy to find.

Either you purchase your train ticket at Gare Saint Lazare (we don't recommend as you may miss the next train) or purchase it in advance, which we strongly recommend! Why?

If you purchase you train ticket at least 45 days in advance you will be able to travel 1st class at pretty much the same cost as a 2nd class ticket.

I.e., 15 Euros 2nd class, 20 Euros 1st class or 21.80 Euros 2nd class, 24.90 euros 1st class pending at what time you take your train etc.

Normandy American Heroes can of course take care of booking your train ticket and charge you back.

A good choice of travelling if :

  • you are on a tight budget
  • you are ok to carry your luggages with you
  • you are not in a hurry
  • you don't mind walking in the long tunnels of the métro station and/or outside
  • you are fine to find yourself in a traffic jam during peak hours or due to an accident on the highway or Paris by-pass!
  • you don’t want to visit some incredible sites like La Roche Guyon castle, headquarters of Field Marshal Erwin Rommel on your way to Normandy
